Massive Freak Wave

November 23, 1981. Off Fair Isle, Scotland.

"The crew of the stern trawler Clarkwood were hauling the net aboard because of gale-force winds when the wave struck. A fisherman told the inquiry the wave was like 'a big green cliff.' ....Skipper Stewart Thomson told the inquiry: 'The ship was struck by a massive lump of water.'"

No estimates were made of the wave height. Three men were swept to their deaths.
